Urgent Information and Resources for Haitians in the U.S. Facing Deportation
The recent executive order terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitians, effective September 2, 2025, has created immense uncertainty and fear. WovenCare Advocacy Services stands with the Haitian community during this challenging time.
1. Immediate Action - Seek Legal Counsel
- Consult an immigration lawyer or accredited legal representative immediately.
- Do not sign any documents from immigration officials without legal review.
- Do not lie or give false information to immigration authorities.
2. Understanding TPS Termination
- TPS ends September 2, 2025 — Haitians will no longer be legally allowed to work or live in the U.S. unless another legal status is obtained.
- Without another legal pathway, individuals may face arrest and deportation.
- DHS believes conditions have "improved" — despite State Department warnings.
3. Alternative Legal Pathways (Consult an Attorney)
- Asylum: If you fear persecution in Haiti. Must apply within 1 year of arrival. Form I-589
- Family-based petitions: If you have U.S. citizen/LPR relatives.
- U & T Visas: If you’ve been a victim of serious crime or trafficking.
- SIJS: For youth under 21 who’ve been abused or abandoned.
- Withholding of Removal / CAT: If you face torture or persecution and do not qualify for asylum.
4. Know Your Rights
- You have the right to remain silent.
- You have the right to talk to a lawyer before signing anything.
- You do not need to open your door to ICE unless they have a warrant signed by a judge.
